Regional attitudes
- One of the features of the region of Alsace is its dialect, named the Alsatian. This dialect is used throughout the whole of Alsace as well is in part of the Moselle area, being the result of Alsace's turbulent history. It is one of the most widely spoken regional languages in France. - There is a local Law in Alsace which is the fruit of years of annexation to the German Empire. The particularities of the local Law stand in employment Law (rest on Sunday and bank holidays). - Also, Alsace welcomes numerous religious communities: Catholics, Protestants, Jewish. - Then, Alsace is a region rich in traditions, which are its specificity. In Alsace, Christmas displays some typical aspects (Christmas markets, Saint Nicolas’ Day, Santa Claus, Christmas tree, the Crib, Midnight mass…). You can find some of these traditions on this website http://www.alsace-noel.com/ , some of these traditions. Besides Christmas traditions, there are many other traditions which you can find on the website of the regional committee of Tourism: |
