| Many foreign companies managers stress that placing a production plant in Lower Silesia, through which main European communication routes run through, open for them opportunity of easy transport to the neighbouring states. The advantage of Lower Silesia is not only its location but also modern, diversifi ed and dynamically developing economy and active, resourceful and educated young population. The investment attraction of the region is a magnet to prominent investors causing development of modern industry branches of which Lower Silesia and Wrocław begin to be famous of. There are mainly: Motoring industry - located mainly in Wałbrzych- Świdnica region due to the following investments: TOYOTA, FAURECIA, AUTOLIV, VOLKSWAGEN, SANDEN, BRIDGESTONE, BOSCH. Domestic Appliances Industry represented by such investors as WHIRLPOOL, FAGOR, LG ELEC- TRONICS in Biskupice Podgórne and ELEC- TROLUX in Świdnica, Żarów and Oława. European LCD Production Centre: LG PHILIPS and sub-suppliers, TOSHIBA, LG ELECTRONICS, JVC Bolesławiec. In 2012 the half of European LCD TV sets and monitors sale will be produced in Lower Silesia factories. Outsourcing centres - R&D (SIEMENS, BENQ, DIEHL CONTROLS), bookkeeping and accounting centers (HP, UPS, KPIT CUMMINS, GOOGLE, GE MONEY BANK, ACN) and numerous service centres – i.e. call centers. Centres of new technology and IT. There are many implementation units in various plants where engineers work on new designs and technologies. Logistics centres: PARKRIDGE, PROLOGIS, TINER, SKALSKI, TNT have already invested here. Special Economic Zone (SSE) it is administratively isolated part of Poland allotted for business on preferential terms. Every entrepreneur in SSE gain tax relieves and is able to start business on specially prepared, fi tted out ground.
The Board of a zone grants permits to do run business in SSE and help in investment process for instance by enabling contacts with local authorities or central administration among other things in land purchase for investment.
Lower Silesia is considered a very attractive region for foreign investors. The local authorities policy is directed o help foreign investors to enter our market. Although foreign investments are most visible in Wrocław itself, there annot be said other parts of Lower Silesia are in any way neglected in that respect. | Universities | Lower Silesia is one of the biggest Polish education centre. Number, kind of schools, their location, teaching staff as well as young participants of educational process make Lower-Silesian educational array exceptionally attractive.
Lower Silesia is one of the biggest higher education centres in Poland regarding number of students and academic staff quality. In Poland Wrocław is on the third place after Warsaw and Cracow regarding number of students and second place (ex equo with Cracow) regarding number of colleges. Every thirteenth student in Poland studies in Lower Silesia. |
