EURO 2012

 

  Road Transport

Road net of Lower-Silesian region is one of the densest in the country. Regional net of hard-surface public roads was, in 2006, over 18,100 kilometers long.Density index in 2006 was 91,2 km per 100 square kilometers. It places our region on the fourth position in the country (after Silesian, Małopolski and Świętokrzyski regions).

The hard-surface roads length in Lower Silesia in 2006 according to gestor criteria is:
National roads        1 321 km;
Regional roads       2 411 km;
Powiat roads           8 454 km;
District roads          5 914 km.

 

Railway Transport

There are some most important main railway tracks:
  • E-30, AGTC, AGC; Zgorzelec – Węgliniec – Legnica– Wrocław – Opole;
  • E-59, AGTC; Poznań – Leszno – Wrocław;
  • C-E 59, Zielona Góra – Głogów – Ścinawa – Wrocław;
  • C 59/2, AGTC; Wrocław – Kamieniec Ząbkowicki– Kłodzko – Międzylesie.

River Transport

Odra River is a water communication track from Kędzierzyn–Koźle to its outlet in Szczecin (742 km). To provide proper river transportation it was canalized along 228 kilometers from Kędzierzyn–Koźle to Brzeg Dolny (including Gliwice Canal). The Odra River waterway is connected with Western river track system through Odra-Hawela Canal, Odra-Szprewa and Łaba and with Eastern river track system through Warta, Noteć, Bydgoszcz Canal, Brda and Vistula. There are several ports on Odra River fl owing through Lower Silesia: in Wrocław (Town Port and Popowice Port), in Malczyce and Głogów. The last two are limited only to mass products. Most of the transportation are local involving aggregate output. (c.a. 60%).


Air Transport

Air traffi c on Wrocław Airport is exceptionally dynamically developing. Presently it holds annually over one million passengers. Its expected growth will expand service capability in the following years up to 4 – 8 millions of passengers. Wrocław is fourth, regarding domestic fl ights connections, airport in Poland (after Warsaw, Gdańsk and Cracow). Its importance as an international airport is defi nitively smaller. General Plan prepared for its needs intends to undertake several investments to the year 2025 which would enlarge its capacity (passengers, goods, air operations) and also improvement of services. The airport development is to be carried in stages which implementation would depend on tempo of changes in air traffi c.
The remaining medical, sport-service, agrotechnological landing fi elds are located in Mirosławice, Szewce-Szymanów, Jelenia Góra, Lubin, Milicz, Świebodzice, Bystrzyca Kłodzka and Orsk and two closed down postSoviet army airfi elds in Legnica and Krzywa.

 

Office of EURO 2012 was established to co-ordinate realization of the project in all proper administration units. The Organizing Committee include among others: The Marshal of Voivodship and Lower-Silesian town mayors who want to prepare their stadiums, hotels and tourists attractions for 2012. There are also very important talks and arrangements with The Ministry of Regional Development and The Government on legislative changes to speed up realization of tasks for EURO 2012 and list of the most important investments which should be co-fi nanced from European Union funds.
